I know, I know a carved Benedetto 17" wide, 3" thick, 25" neck to bridge, dried for 30 years, etc would be better, but I'm on a budget for an archtop. I'm also getting a custom electric but a metal, fusion, rock electric doesn't work well for traditional jazz.

P90 pickup for archtop guitar?
I have an acoustic archtop with solid top back and sides, however the acoustic voice of the guitar is distinctly mediocre, even with .13 gauge round wound strings on it. I am considering having a P90 fitted to the neck to replace the current Asian Johnny Smith thing that is on it now. Also, if there is a particular pickup that you believe that would be better for the guitar, I would like to have your thoughts. All contributions are appreciated

One of my favorite guitars is an old like 80 years old Gibson Archtop. I want to play life with it, it has a great neck and wonderful tone, but no volume. Since it is what it is, I don't want to modify it.Any suggestions for pickups that I can use without modification of the guitar? Are acoustic tonal qualities compromised so that the ear can notice the difference between body mounted humbuckers vol tone pots compared to a floating neck humbucker with vol tone pots mounted to the pickguard ?
